Stash - special boy!!

It was Labor Day weekend when we received the e-mail from a good samaritan about a dog that had been abandoned. When we drove to the address the “house” was really a small shack that was covered in graffiti and looked to be abandoned. There was so much trash, and partially burned furniture thrown about, it was difficult to walk around. All of a sudden a little black furry dog came bounding out to greet us! He jumped up and licked our faces and seemed to say, “Where have you been? I have been waiting…and waiting.”  We contacted the sheriff, and just as he arrived on the scene so did a woman who jumped out of her car and called, “Here Stache!” The little black dog went running to the woman, and it was obvious the two knew each other. The woman, Jessica, proceeded to explain that she had given Stash away, along with his litter mates, when they were puppies. She had heard that this little one had since been abandoned. Rescued Tails worked with Jessica to get Stache, along with his littermate Nicki, to the vet. Each dog received medical care, including being spayed/neutered. In a blink of an eye, Stache was seen on our web site by Carrie and Josh and adopted into the wonderful forever home he so deserved. And soon after, Nicki’s lucky day came when Bonnie spotted her on our Petfinder page and drove over 50 miles, with her daughter and grandkids, to meet the little black dog. It was love at first sight, and Nicki went home the very same day. Thank you to everyone who helped save these two wonderful dogs!

Speedy
Speedy

Speedy had been sitting in a shelter in Hutchinson, MN, since November and was diagnosed with Cushings disease. The shelter didn't have the money to pay for her medical expenses, and her time there was limited. Rescued Tails offered to pay for her testing and treatment, so the shelter was then able to take Speedy to the vet and get her the medical help she needed. Meanwhile, we were desperately looking for a foster home for Speedy. We contacted a previous adopter, who had recently lost their precious dog, Gertie, to lymphoma. We asked them if they would be willing to foster Speedy for us. They met her and it was love at first sight - they ended up adopting Speedy!

It was the perfect combination of sharing resources, networking and timing, and now Speedy is living in a home for the first time in seven months. We know that she will be greatly loved and spoiled rotten! Thank you to everyone who helped Speedy and a HUGE THANK YOU to Scott and Maggie for opening up their hearts and home to help another dog in need and adopting Speedy! And a HUGE THANK YOU to John and Jill for donating the funds to cover Speedy's vet care!

Snuggles

There was a call from our vet asking if we could help. An 8 year old cat had been brought in to be euthanized because she didn't like the small children in her house. How bad could a cat named, “Snuggles” be? Well, when we met her we realized she wasn’t “bad” at all! We took Snuggles into our program and she lived up to her name – her foster mom, Seena adored the feline.  Being a senior cat made her a bit of a challenge to find a home for – but we never gave up on Snuggles, and after three years, her special day finally came. Julia and her daughter had been looking on our web site and saw Snuggles. How could they resist a cat with such a wonderful name? Julia tells us their family absolutely LOVES Snuggles, and most of the time you will find this feline “snuggled” up their 14 year old daughter!

Shelby

Animal control said she had been picked up as a stray and never reclaimed. The senior gal had been passed over due to her age, and Rescued Tails was one of her last hopes. We needed to find a special foster home that could help this poor dog. Foster mom “super-hero”, Theresa, picked up the old dog from animal control and named her Shelby. She came to us with heartworm disease, a urinary infection and ear infection. But it was Shelby’s sweetness that made an impact on everyone who met her. Throughout her heartworm treatments Shelby was always the perfect patient. She got along well with others and was a joy to care for. Shelby’s special day came when Ben and Lori contacted us inquiring about our senior dog. They had been looking for a canine companion to love who would do well with their cats. Shelby was the perfect match! Shelby was adopted and recently went on a two mile hike with Ben and Lori in the U.P.! Way to go Shelby, and thanks to Ben and Lori for adopting a senior!

Samson

Three homes and not even a year old yet? The little bundle of fur was dropped off at Rescued Tails Animal Sanctuary by a concerned young man who told us the young pup had been getting into trouble, and no one could handle him. We looked down at little Samson, as he gnawed on his leash, and realized he had almost gnawed right through it! We scooped him up and brought him inside – we cleaned him up as he licked our faces, and looked at each other puzzled why no one would want such an adorable little puppy. Over the next few weeks Samson showed us why he had been tossed from home to home – he was an out of control, bundle of energy. Our kitchen became a racetrack of sorts for Samson with the only stoplight being…big Buddy, our 120 pound St. Bernard mix. Slowly but surely Samson began to make progress and learn manners. But what he really needed was a four-legged playmate. Kijo and Scott had seen Samson on our web site and came to Rescued Tails to meet the cute little pup they had seen online. Samson went to his new home that day, and Kijo and Scott turned out to be the PERFECT home for Samson (now named Deuce). Kijo describes Deuce as, “…truly the most loving and affectionate baby we've ever known, and has Scott wrapped around all four paws. I believe he's topped 150 lbs…. Almost every morning he comes to cuddle with me before the alarm goes off, and despite his size, he's perfected cuddling and insists on having his cuddle time a few times each day. He and Bubba are still the best of buds.” Thank you Kijo and Scott (and Bubba!) for giving Deuce the best home ever – forever!
