I am in my new home!

Gypsy was found hanging around a rest stop up north, so a nice woman helped her out by taking her to her house. After attempts to locate any owner failed, Gypsy was brought to an outdoor shelter. We happened to be at the shelter picking up another dog when she arrived, so we ended up leaving there with two dogs.

Gypsy is a very sweet, loving dog. She is very selective with which other dogs she likes, and has had issues with multiple dogs so she might do best as an only dog, but she does well with cats.

Gypsy is participating in our Rush to Rescue program, so she is currently being fostered by a pair of offenders at the Rush City Correctional Facility. While there, she will be attending a training program with a certified trainer and will be working on her commands with her handlers.

Update from one of Gypsy's handlers: Gypsy is a shepherd mix. She is not a large dog, we call her a pocket shepherd. She is right around 40 pounds and we do not think she will get much bigger. Many staff have called her the perfect size.

Gypsy was extremely shy and timid when she first came here. She has come out of her shell and loves to play. She will play fetch for hours if you're willing. Gypsy has met my grandchildren in the visiting room. They are 2, 5, and 7 years old. Her eyes light up and she loves interacting with the children.

Gypsy walks and heels well without a leash. On the leash, she will try to pull until you correct her. she will listen well to her commands: sit, stay, come, and down. She will occasionally roll over for treats as well as some other simple tricks.

She is a great dog with a great personality. She can be a little independent at times, but loves to please her handlers. Gypsy does well in the crate and has no problems with it.
